I try to be like a pencil. If the tip is at about-right sharp, the writings will be smooth and accurate, and it even leaves marks on the next page and maybe few pages after too. If i made a mistake, i can always erase and re-write. If it becomes blunt, i can always re-sharp it. It will always be useful until the end of it's life.
